Dr. Thomas Maguire

Dr. Maguire recently retired as President of the Educational Records Bureau, a not-for-profit membership organization of over 1500 independent and public schools. Before joining ERB, he served as the Superintendent of Schools of the Byram Hills Central School District in Armonk, New York, where he was a founding member of the Byram Hills Education Foundation, the Tri-state Standards Consortium, and the Teacher Center at (SUNY) Purchase College. A past president of the Lower Hudson Council of School Superintendents, he is a recipient of its Distinguished Service Award.


He speaks and presents at a number of conferences, including the Educational Records Bureau Annual Conference, the California Association of Independent Schools’ Regional Conferences, the European Association of Independent Schools Annual Conference, and the American Association of School Superintendents Annual Conference.


In a career in public education that began in the Midwest with positions as a teacher, District Coordinator of English, and Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Maguire served as Superintendent of Schools in Salem, Massachusetts, before his appointment in Byram Hills. Dr. Maguire earned his PhD in the Philosophy of Education from the University of Chicago in 1970, where he was a research associate and National Institute of Mental Health Fellow.
