G. Reid Lyon, Ph.D.

Executive Vice President, Best Associates

Dr. Lyon is the Executive Vice President for Research and Evaluation at Best Associates and Whitney International University in Dallas, Texas. Prior to joining Best Associates, Dr. Lyon served as a research psychologist and the Chief of the Child Development and Behavior Branch of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) at NIH, and served on the faculties of The University of Alabama-Birmingham (1977-1980), Northwestern University (1980-1983), and the University of Vermont (1983-1991).

Dr. Lyon received his Ph.D. from the University of New Mexico with a dual concentration in psychology and special education (1978). Dr. Lyon has vast classroom experience, and has taught children with learning disabilities and served as a school psychologist in a number of schools across the country. In addition Dr. Lyon served as a US Army paratrooper with the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions in the Republic of Vietnam from February 1968 to May 1969, earning the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star for Valor, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry during his combat tours.

An expert in his field, Dr. Lyon has testified numerous times before Congress, was a member of the President’s Commission on Excellence in Special Education, served as an advisor to President George W. Bush on child development and education research policies from 2001-2005, and served as an advisor to Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings during 2005.
